BJP names 27 candidates for 2026 Tamil Nadu polls, key nominees include Tamilisai Soundararajan and Vanathi Srinivasan, state votes 23 April, count on 4 May.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released its list of 27 candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026. The announcement was made by the party’s Central Election Committee.

According to the list, Tamilisai Soundararajan will contest from Mylapore, Vanathi Srinivasan from Coimbatore (North) and Dr L Murugan from Avanashi.

The list includes M. Rajasimha Mahindra from Avadi, Dr. Nagesh Kumar from Thalli, C. Elumalai from Tiruvannamalai, Dr. S.D. Premkumar from Rasipuram (SC), Kirthika Shivkumar from Modakkurichi, Bhojarajan from Udhagamandalam, S. Thangaraj from Tiruppur (South), Govi Chandru from Thiruvarur, M. Muruganandam from Thanjavur, C. Udhayakumar from Gandharvakottai (SC).

Other candidates mentioned in the list are N. Ramachandran from Pudukkottai, Kavitha Srikanth from Aranthangi, K.C. Thirumaran from Tiruppattur, Pon. V. Balaganapathy from Manamadurai (SC), Prof. Raama Sreenivasan from Madurai South, Nainar Nagenthran from Sattur, GBS K. Nagendran from Ramanathapuram, KRM Radhakrishnan from Tiruchendur, Ananthan Ayyasamy from Vasudevanallur (SC), S.P. Balakrishnan from Radhapuram, M.R. Gandhi from Nagercoil, T. Sivakumar from Colachel, P. Ramesh from Padmanabhapuram, and S. Vijayadharani from Vilavancode.

Tamil Nadu will go to polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4.

The key electoral battle in Tamil Nadu is expected to be between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA)—comprising the Congress, DMDK, and other regional parties—and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the AIADMK, with the BJP and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) as allies. Adding to the political excitement, actor-turned-politician Vijay will make his electoral debut through his newly launched party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
