The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Hubballi-Dharwad Social Media Cell has sought action against a man for posting derogatory content about Veer Savarkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

In a memorandum submitted to the Police Inspector of the Cyber Crime Division in Hubballi on Tuesday, the office-bearers of the cell condemned a post made from a Facebook account named “Siddu Sid”, which, they say, insults the Prime Minister and a freedom fighter (Veer Savarkar).

They said that such content undermines the dignity of the country’s highest constitutional office and can create unrest in society and demanded that the man responsible be identified, arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and applicable cyber laws.

District general secretary Shivu Mensinakayi and office-bearers, including Manjunath Katkar and Basavaraj Baligar, and others warned of an agitation if appropriate action is not taken.
