A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary was brutally hacked to death by a gang near Sanarpatti in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district on Thursday evening.

The victim, identified as 39-year-old Balakrishnan from Rajakapatti, was reportedly speaking with friends around 6 pm when he was suddenly surrounded by a group of men on motorbikes.

The assailants, armed with weapons, attacked Balakrishnan in full public view. Shocked bystanders immediately alerted the police, but before officials could arrive, the gang had already inflicted severe injuries and fled the scene, leaving the victim covered in blood.

Sanarpatti Police reached the spot shortly after and recovered Balakrishnan’s body. It was sent to the Dindigul District Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary enquiries suggest that the murder may have stemmed from a financial dispute. However, police officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the motive and identify all those involved in the gruesome attack.
