RAIPUR: Calling for a major technology upgrade in Chhattisgarh’s public healthcare system, Raipur MP and senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal has urged the state govt to install robotic surgery systems in major government hospitals and medical colleges. In a letter to chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai and health minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Agrawal said the move could help provide better and timely treatment to patients who depend on state-run hospitals, especially the poor, labourers, farmers and lower- and middle-income families. He flagged long waiting lists for surgeries in govt hospitals as a serious concern, saying limited resources, shortage of specialist doctors and the time taken for conventional operations often force patients to wait for months for their turn.
Agrawal said that during his public interactions, many families have shared stories of hardship caused by delayed surgeries, with illnesses becoming more complicated as patients wait for operation dates. The MP suggested that robotic surgery systems be installed in leading state-run institutions, including Medical College Hospital Raipur, DKS Super Speciality Hospital Raipur and other medical college hospitals across the state.
Describing robotic surgery as a transformative development in modern medicine, Agrawal said the technology allows even complex procedures to be carried out with greater precision and in less time. That, he argued, would make it possible to conduct more surgeries in a day and reduce the backlog of pending cases faster. He also said the technique offers added benefits for patients, including smaller incisions, less pain, quicker healing and shorter hospital stays.Agrawal said installation of robotic surgery systems in major government hospitals could ensure timely, safer and better treatment for lakhs of needy patients and reduce their dependence on expensive private healthcare.
