Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua on Saturday mocked the United States during its 250th Independence Day celebrations, releasing a satirical video that criticised Washington’s military interventions over the course of its history.

The video, shared on X, opens with a birthday celebration setup featuring a cake topped with candles and miniature rocket models. The room is decorated with burnt flags representing countries that have had conflicts with the US.

An elderly man is then seen blowing out the candles, after which the rocket models launch and the video transitions to AI-generated visuals depicting US rockets striking multiple countries on a map.

Video Slams US Involvement In Wars

The clip concludes with the message: “Blowing out candles, Blowing up countries." It also states, “The United States was not at war for less than 2 decades throughout its 250 years of history."

Sharing the video, Xinhua wrote, “250 Candles. A History Written in Smoke. Since its independence on July 4, 1776, in the 250 years, the United States was not at war for less than two decades. Produced by Xinhua Global Service." The video has garnered over 580k views on X so far.

July 4 Celebrations

The video was released as the United States marked the 250th anniversary of its Independence Day on July 4. Celebrations across the country included large-scale fireworks displays, parades, concerts and community events commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The milestone anniversary also featured official ceremonies highlighting the country’s history and national identity.
