Obstacle light system on Satanpur Hill
Bokaro: Chances of flight operations beginning from the upcoming Bokaro airport got a bit brighter after the authorities completed a crucial aviation safety upgrade with the installation of an obstacle light system on Satanpur Hill, located a few kilometres from the airport premises, on Wednesday. The installation has been carried out by the district administration as part of mandatory safety compliance required for commercial aviation clearance. According to Bokaro deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, the newly installed system is solar-powered with battery backup, ensuring uninterrupted functioning even during power failures. “The obstacle light system has been designed to operate round the clock without dependency on conventional electricity,” he said.Obstacle lighting is a mandatory requirement under aviation safety norms for tall structures and elevated terrain, enabling pilots to identify potential hazards during landing and take off, especially in low-visibility conditions.Officials noted that similar safety measures were earlier implemented in Nov 2025, when obstacle lights were installed on three tall chimneys within the Bokaro Steel Plant premises. With the latest installation at Satanpur Hill, critical safety parameters around the airport zone have now been significantly strengthened.
