Bomb Scare On IndiGo's Kolkata-Shillong Flight After Threat Note Found In Aircraft's Lavatory

The note was found in the lavatory of IndiGo flight 6E 7304, which was scheduled to depart for Shillong at around 9.15 am.

A bomb scare was reported at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday after a handwritten note claiming the presence of a bomb was found inside a Shillong-bound IndiGo aircraft, officials said.

The note was found in the lavatory of IndiGo flight 6E 7304, which was scheduled to depart for Shillong at around 9.15 am.

Airport authorities said the message was spotted by a crew member during the boarding process, before the aircraft took off.

Following the alert, all passengers were safely deboarded and the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay as a precautionary measure.

Security agencies immediately initiated a comprehensive anti-sabotage check in line with standard operating procedures.

“The aircraft has been shifted to the isolation bay. During boarding, a piece of paper was found inside the toilet of the aircraft stating there was a bomb onboard. Passengers were immediately evacuated and the checking process is underway," the Airport Director said.

An IndiGo spokesperson said the aircraft was being thoroughly searched and all mandated safety protocols had been activated. Bomb detection and disposal teams and other security agencies were deployed at the site, officials added.

No explosive material had been recovered till the filing of this report, and authorities said the incident was under investigation.

A similar incident was reported last month when an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Pune was subjected to a bomb threat after a handwritten note was found in the aircraft’s lavatory upon landing.

The aircraft was then examined by security agencies and later cleared after no suspicious object was found.
