Patna: The Bihar assembly in Patna received a bomb threat email on Friday, prompting immediate action from authorities.Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar convened an emergency meeting with senior officials to discuss the situation and directed them to inform the chief secretary and the director general of police (DGP) about the threat.The email, sent to the Assembly secretariat, warned of a bomb blast and triggered heightened security measures. Bomb disposal squads and dog units were deployed to search the premises, while additional police forces were stationed around the assembly building.A statement issued by the Bihar assembly secretariat said, “Today, an email threatening to blow up the Bihar Assembly with a bomb was received. The Speaker of the Bihar Assembly, Prem Kumar, immediately took cognisance of the matter and held a meeting with senior officials of the Assembly Secretariat.”
The Speaker directed the in-charge secretary to inform chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit and DGP Vinay Kumar and ensure that the assembly premises were inspected immediately from a security perspective.Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the threat and said, “A threat was received through email. Currently, an investigation is underway.”The email was received on the official account of the Assembly secretariat.
As soon as the threat came to light, panic spread in the secretariat.Security agencies were immediately alerted and security arrangements were tightened in the Assembly premises and surrounding areas. Teams of police and security agencies reached the spot and began an investigation.Intensive screening of people entering and exiting the assembly building was carried out. Every vehicle and individual was checked to prevent any untoward incident.The bomb disposal unit and dog squad also conducted a thorough search of the entire premises.According to police sources, “Security agencies are now working to trace the source of the email through which the threat was sent. Cyber experts were also roped into the investigation. The probe is being conducted keeping every aspect in mind. Efforts are underway to identify who issued the threat and from where the mail was sent.”
