Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar released a book titled ‘Gandikota Veeranari Govindamma’ after lesser-known Telugu woman warrior of Kadapa region, on Thursday.

Interestingly, the Telugu warrior also belonged to Pemmasani clan. Govindamma fought the battle alongside her younger brother Pemmasani Chinna Thimma Naidu, the ruler of the Gandikota region, and breathed her last.

The book was authored by Nemalidinne Nagaveni, a social activist and history enthusiast from Kadapa, who has taken up initiatives to get dilapidated structures renovated and famed tourist spots to light.

“Akin to Jhansi Rani and Rani Rudrama Devi, Govindamma was equally valorous and her sacrifice is worth a recall,” said Ms. Nagaveni, who credited tourism enthusiast and writer Siddavatam Seetharamaiah for her latest work. The Minister has assured all the support to develop the historical sites around Gandikota, she added.
