Boost organ donation awareness, urges expert at NCC camp

Dr Mahantesh Ramannavar addresses NCC cadets at the annual NCC camp organised by the Karnataka NCC unit in Jadhav Nagar on Thursday.

Belagavi: Dr Mahantesh Ramannavar of KLE Ayurveda College said society needs greater awareness and scientific understanding of body and organ donation after death. Donating eyes can restore sight to two or three people, while donating skin and organs can offer new life and a sense of fulfilment to others.

Addressing NCC cadets at the annual camp organised by the Karnataka NCC unit in Jadhav Nagar on Thursday, he said that instead of cremation or burial, body donation can benefit medical education and help students learn.

He stressed the importance of maintaining organ health through a proper diet. Healthy organs, he said, are key to preventing illness. Dr Ramannavar also urged people to overcome misconceptions about blood donation, noting that healthy individuals above 18 can donate blood annually. This, he added, is both a social responsibility and an act of saving lives. Commanding Officer Colonel Sunil Dagar, Subedar Major Kallappa Patil, Major Dr Mahesh Guranagoudar, Captain Santosh Khot, CS Patil, Lt SK Nayak, Lt Suraj Patil, and Monika were present.
