Boss faces fresh legal hurdle as Darshan, Vijayalakshmi move HC to stall the release

The legal battle over the Kannada film Boss has escalated days before its scheduled release on June 19, with actor Darshan and his wife, Vijayalakshmi, moving the Karnataka High Court to seek a stay on the film’s release.

The couple has filed an appeal challenging a recent city civil court order that cleared the way for the film’s release.Directed by Lava and starring Thanush Shivanna, Boss has been at the centre of controversy over allegations that it draws inspiration from the Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan, one of the accused in the case, has reportedly objected to the film’s depiction of events and characters while the matter remains sub judice.Earlier, the city civil court had vacated an interim injunction that had temporarily restrained the film’s release. Following the order, the makers confirmed that Boss would hit theatres across Karnataka on June 19. With the fresh appeal now before the Karnataka High Court, the film’s release hangs in the balance once again.
