Boy, 15, drowns in lake near Lalgudi

Trichy: A Class-X boy drowned while bathing in a lake near Lalgudi in Trichy district on Sunday.The deceased, A Nesan, 15, of Devankudi near Mettupatti in Trichy district, didn’t know swimming.

He was studying at a govt-aided school in Kattur.Police said Nesan’s parents went to attend a family event and he was alone at home over the weekend. On Sunday, he along with four of his friends went to bathe in the Muthukulam lake. While bathing, Nesan ventured into a deeper part of the lake and drowned.As Nesan did not emerge from the water, his friends raised the alarm. Villagers jumped into the lake and retrieved Nesan’s body. Lalgudi police reached the spot and shifted the body to the local govt hospital for an autopsy. They registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for an unnatural death and are investigating.Officials warned the public against bathing in deep water bodies.
