Patna: A 10-year-old boy was killed in celebratory firing during a tilak ceremony at Sujatpur village under Ghosi police station in Jehanabad district on Wednesday night. The child, Roshan Kumar, was shot in the head and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.According to police, the tilak ceremony of Pankaj Kumar, elder son of Krishna Yadav, was underway. The tilak procession had come from Saren village under Makhdumpur police station area. After the rituals, a dance and music programme was organised near a Shiv temple, attended by a large number of villagers.The groom’s younger brother allegedly climbed on the stage with some companions during the programme. The youths, carrying firearms, began firing in celebration.
One of the bullets hit Roshan, the only son of Vipin Yadav, in the head and passed through, also hitting the groom’s maternal uncle standing behind him.Both the injured were taken to Ghosi primary health centre, where Roshan was declared dead on arrival. The groom’s uncle is out of danger.Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body to Sadar hospital for postmortem. Roshan, a Class 1 student, is survived by his parents and two younger sisters.Ghosi SHO Shailesh Kumar said, “Raids are being conducted to arrest those involved in the firing and recover the weapons used. We are investigating the case.”
