Brad Pitt quietly supports Chris Cornell’s kids amid rift with his own children: 'Still a gaping hole in his life'

Brad Pitt has built a close bond with Chris Cornell’s children in the years since the Soundgarden rocker died by suicide on May 18, 2017, at age 52. Cornell left behind three children, Christopher, Toni, and Lillian.

A new report claims Pitt, who shared a close friendship with Cornell, has continued to support the family while his own ties with his children remain strained.

According to RadarOnline.com, Pitt was “devastated” by Cornell’s death and had a “brotherly relationship” with him. A source told the outlet there is still a “gaping hole in his life,” but helping Cornell’s children has brought him a sense of purpose.“A huge part of Brad’s sobriety journey over the last five or six years has been showing up for people, supporting them, and helping them step into the spotlight themselves,” an insider said.“You see that in action with Chris’ kids, especially Toni, where Brad is actively opening doors for her as she becomes a full-blown singer.”Toni Cornell has been working on her music career and has started releasing her own songs. In 2019, Pitt appeared emotional while introducing Toni on stage at the “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” concert in Los Angeles. She performed with Ziggy Marley at the event.

A friend of the ‘F1’ actor told RadarOnline.com that Pitt took Cornell’s death “very hard,” almost as if he had lost a family member.

“Brad trusted Chris on every level. It was a friendship that was honest, loyal, and sparked by a mutual understanding,” the friend said. “When Brad came to terms with his demons, Chris was right there for him. He helped Brad live a happy, sober life.”“Some say Chris was his Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor because Chris spoke to him on the phone daily and gave him an AA book!” the source added. “Chris was part of Brad’s support group and now he is gone.”The report also noted Pitt’s strained relationship with the six children he shares with Angelina Jolie, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. People reported in 2024 that Pitt had “virtually no contact with the adult kids.” RadarOnline.com also claimed at least four children have dropped his last name in some form.“When it comes to Chris’ kids, he takes his obligation to them incredibly seriously!” an insider said. Pitt continues to stay connected with Cornell’s family while managing distance within his own.
