Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho is reportedly set for a stunning return to professional football after joining Italian third-division side Ravenna, more than a decade after his last competitive appearance. According to a report from Italian media outlet Gazzetta, the 46-year-old, who last played professionally for Fluminense in 2015, is expected to be officially unveiled at a special event in Miami on June 23.

Initially, the club suggested Ronaldinho's involvement would mainly focus on promotional and marketing activities. However, officials have since refused to completely rule out the possibility of the former Barcelona and AC Milan star taking to the field again.Ravenna vice-president Ariedo Braida had earlier insisted that Ronaldinho would not feature in Serie C matches."Ronaldinho will do a marketing event with us, but will not play for Ravenna in Serie C next season," he had said. "Also, because he is 46, I wish he could still play."But later, he hinted that a playing comeback cannot be completely dismissed."Ronaldinho is a timeless champion. He has signed with Ravenna and, for a club like ours, it's an extraordinary coup.

Over the next few days, there will be an event to unveil this extraordinary character. Will he play? We'll see, but it's not ruled out. As I already said, he is a timeless champion," he added.

Ronaldinho excited for new chapter

The Ballon d'Or winner, who enjoyed a successful spell with AC Milan between 2008 and 2011, is returning to Italy under coach Andrea Mandorlini. Ronaldinho, who has regularly featured in exhibition and legends matches since retiring, expressed his excitement over the move."New colours, same smile," Ronaldinho said. "I cannot wait to be able to dance on the ball again to write a new story together with Ignazio and the whole Cipriani family. Football has always been a source of joy for me, I want to bring the same spirit to Ravenna," he added.
