In a case of dowry harassment from Tamil Nadu, 27-year-old Ridhanya, daughter of a local garment firm owner, died by consuming sulphas tablets while on her way to Mondipalayam temple. The tragedy unfolded just days after her marriage, following relentless harassment from her husband and in-laws.

Despite providing a lavish dowry of 100 sovereigns of gold and a ₹70 lakh Volvo car, Ridhanya’s husband, Kavinkumar, and his parents allegedly demanded more within 10 days of the wedding in April.

The young woman endured severe mental and physical abuse, which ultimately pushed her to take the extreme step. In her final WhatsApp voice note to her father, she expressed her despair and declared her intention to end her life.

Following her death, the police registered a case under dowry-related charges and arrested Kavinkumar and his parents. The incident sparked public outrage, with Ridhanya’s relatives staging a sit-in protest at Avinashi Government Hospital, confronting the accused when they were brought in by the authorities.
