A British national working as a broadcast engineer for the IPL was found dead in his hotel room at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai on Monday morning, raising questions over the circumstances of his sudden demise.

The deceased has been identified as 76-year-old Ian William Langford, who had been staying at the Trident Hotel since March 24 while covering IPL matches. On March 29, Langford returned to his room (number 2715) after a match. The following morning, hotel staff attempted to contact him via phone but received no response.

A search team, with the help of a master key, entered the room and discovered Langford lying on the floor. The hotel’s in-house doctor was immediately called, who pronounced him dead at the scene.

Marine Drive police have registered a case of unnatural death, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities reported that, as of now, there is nothing suspicious about the death. Langford’s body was taken to Bombay Hospital for further examination.

Langford had been working with the Board of Control for Cricket in India as part of the broadcast team for IPL matches, covering games from multiple venues across the city.

While the cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, police sources confirmed that preliminary checks did not indicate foul play. The Mumbai police continue to investigate all aspects of the incident.
