Buckingham Palace on Sunday said the planned visit of King Charles to the United States is under review following a shooting incident at a Washington gala attended by US President Donald Trump.
The incident took place late on Saturday during the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association, where gunshots were reported outside the venue.
The event was attended by Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and several senior US officials. Security personnel quickly moved to secure the area, and the suspected attacker was taken into custody.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said King Charles III was “greatly relieved" that Trump, his wife and other guests were unharmed in the incident. The palace said the King is being kept fully informed of developments.

The shooting comes less than 48 hours before King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to begin a four-day state visit to the US, which includes a state dinner scheduled for Tuesday and engagements in Washington and New York.
The palace said discussions will take place on Sunday with US authorities to assess whether the events in Washington will affect the operational planning of the royal visit.
“A number of discussions will be taking place throughout the day to discuss with US colleagues and our respective teams to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact on the operational planning for the visit," the palace said.
The state visit is intended to mark the long-standing relationship between Britain and the US as America prepares to commemorate 250 years of independence. The programme includes meetings in Washington and New York, and a state dinner hosted in honour of the royal couple.
King Charles is also expected to become the first British monarch since 1991 to address the US Congress, following Queen Elizabeth II’s historic visit.
