Bumper returns from HAL! This defence PSU stock emerges ‘most consistent’ and ‘all-round’ wealth creator in last 5 years; check top 10 list

Hindustan Aeronautics or HAL has emerged as the most consistent and all-round wealth creator stock in the span of the last five years, according to a new report by Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited.

The defence Public Sector undertaking (PSU) stock has outperformed the Nifty Total Return Index in all the last five years, and has the highest Total Return CAGR of a whopping 75%! During the period from the pandemic lows of March 2020, the leading 100 stocks generated wealth of Rs 148 lakh crore, the study said. According to the 30th annual wealth creation analysis by Motilal Oswal Financial Services, PSU stocks, previously overlooked when it comes to wealth creation, emerged as the main contributors during the five-year duration until March 2025.

HAL Stock: Most Consistent & All-Round Wealth Creator

According to the MOFSL study, the most consistent wealth creator stock is defined based on the number of years the stock has outperformed in each of the last five years. Where the number of years is the same, the Total Return CAGR decides the rank.

Based on this, over the time period of 2020-25, Hindustan Aeronautics has emerged as the most consistent wealth creator stock. MOFSL highlights that consistent wealth creation is a challenge - proved by the fact that of the top 500 market cap companies of 2020, only 13 have outperformed in each of the last 5 years.

HAL is also the ‘Best All-round Wealth Creator’stock , according to the study. All-round weather creator stock is one that falls under three categories - biggest, fastest and most consistent wealth creators. HAL ranks well in all categories and emerges as the all-round wealth creator.

Interestingly, in a significant departure from the past, 4 of the top 10 all-round wealth creator stocks this time are PSUs. Other notable consistent wealth creators included Welspun Corp, Bharat Dynamics, Indian Bank and Bharat Electronics, with PSUs comprising four of these five organisations.
