The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been recognised as one of the top five water utilities at the Global Water Summit 2026 being held in Madrid, Spain.
“BWSSB was listed among the top five “Utility of the Year” category, considered one of the highest recognitions in the international water sector. The recognition was based on the Board’s performance over the past three years in areas including urban water supply, sanitation management, technology adoption, infrastructure expansion, and sustainable utility governance. Other utilities in the category included Mouton Niguel water district of Southern California, USA, Sabesp in Sao Paulo, Brazil and National Water company (NWC), Saudi Arabia,” BWSSB said in a statement on Wednesday.
“BWSSB’s integrated approach towards water conservation, wastewater recycling, reuse, and sustainable urban water governance, popularly referred to as its “Five Pillars” strategy. In this category, BWSSB featured alongside globally reputed utilities including Aguas Nuevas, Chile, Indah Water Konsortium, Malaysia, SANASA, Brazil and Sanepar of Paraná, Brazil,” BWSSB said.
BWSSB’s flagship Cauvery Stage-V Drinking Water Project, implemented to address Bengaluru’s growing water demand, also secured a place among the Top 5 global projects under the “Water Project of the Year” category, it said in a statement.
“The recognition highlights Bengaluru’s emergence as a global case study in large-scale urban water management and infrastructure transformation,” V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Chairman, BWSSB, who has been representing the Board at the Summit in Madrid, said.
