Byelection for Bhojpur-Buxar MLC seat on May 12: EC

Patna: The Election Commission on Thursday announced that byelection for the Bihar legislative council seat from the Bhojpur-cum-Buxar Local Authorities’ Constituency will be held on May 12.The by-election was necessitated due to a vacancy created on Nov 16 last year following the resignation of JD(U) MLC Radha Charan Sah after his election to the state assembly from Sandesh constituency in the 2025 elections.In an official notification, the Election Commission under secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the constituency, which is spread across two districts.As per the election schedule, the formal notification for the by-election will be issued on April 16. Candidates can file their nominations until April 23, while scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 24. The final date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for April 27.Voting will be held on May 12 from 8am to 4pm. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 14, and the entire election process will be completed by May 15.The announcement sets the stage for a closely watched contest in the Bhojpur-cum-Buxar Local Authorities’ Constituency as political parties prepare to field their candidates for the upcoming byelection.
