Canon's most popular compact camera is getting a collector's makeover for its 30th anniversary

Canon is celebrating 30 years of its PowerShot compact camera lineup with a limited-edition version of the G7 X Mark III. The commemorative model features a graphite finish, knurled control ring, and a 30th anniversary logo—with units expected to be few and far between. The specs remain unchanged, with the same 1-inch sensor and 4.2x zoom.

Canon's PowerShot lineup turns 30 this year, and the company is marking it the way most camera brands do—with a limited-edition collector's model. The G7 X Mark III gets a graphite finish, a knurled control ring, and a 30th anniversary logo—and just like any other limited edition, units will be few and far between. The PowerShot story goes all the way back to July 1996, when Canon launched the original PowerShot 600—a chunky little thing with a 0.57MP sensor. Three decades later, the lineup has crossed 200 million units in cumulative global production (including the IXUS series), which is a genuinely staggering number for what's considered a shrinking product category.

The 30th anniversary G7 X Mark III gets the same 1-Inch sensor, new graphite dress—and a very limited run

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Edition Graphite finish, knurled control ring, and anniversary logo set it apart from the standard model

The G7 X Mark III, which first launched in August 2019, was already a fan favourite long before this announcement—largely because the TikTok and YouTube creator crowd adopted it as a go-to vlogging camera.

The specs haven't changed: it still packs a 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor with 20.1MP resolution, a 4.2x optical zoom, and a dedicated Video Blog recording mode. What's new is entirely cosmetic and collectible. The anniversary edition adds an exclusive graphite colour treatment, a knurled front control ring for a more premium feel, and the 30th anniversary logo stamped on the body. It ships with special commemorative packaging and a collector's edition wrist strap. The US gets it in April 2026 at $1,299, bundled with a Peak Design Cuff and a 32GB SD card. Canon hasn't said a word about India pricing or availability yet—though given the company's usual cadence, April isn't an unreasonable guess.
