Travelling with luggage is often unavoidable, and commuters across Karnataka may now have to pay a little more for the extra weight they carry. The revised charges apply not only to baggage but also to pets transported on board. KSRTC has implemented updated luggage tariffs on items carried in its buses, with the new rates coming into effect today.
As transport costs continue to evolve, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has revised its luggage charges, with the new rates coming into effect from February 16, 2026. The update follows the routine practice of revising luggage tariffs after fare changes, even though ticket fares were last increased in January 2025.
KSRTC clarified that luggage tariffs are reviewed after fare revisions as part of routine operational adjustments. While passenger fares were increased earlier, luggage rates had remained unchanged since December 2021. Officials said the revision was necessary to align with rising operational costs and maintain service efficiency. The corporation estimates the increase at roughly 15 percent compared to previous rates.

Household Goods and Pets Allowed
Beyond personal baggage, KSRTC allows transport of larger household items depending on available space. Items such as washing machines, refrigerators, aluminium and iron pipes, truck tyres and kitchen utensils may be transported. The service also permits pets including cats, dogs and rabbits, subject to safety and space norms.
A System in Place Since 1999
The luggage transport system has been operational in KSRTC buses since November 5, 1999. Officials noted that the rules and tariffs are revised periodically to reflect operational realities and passenger needs.
The revision primarily affects passengers carrying heavy goods, while routine travellers with standard baggage remain unaffected.
