Former Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart is poised to make a return to the NHL, but it seems clear that Philadelphia won’t be his next stop. According to NHL insider Chris Johnston of The Athletic, Hart, 27, is expected to finalize a deal with a new NHL team by October 1, with his contract eligible for official registration starting October 15.
Carter Hart seeking fresh start and significant playing time
Hart’s priorities are clear: he wants a fresh start, meaningful ice time, and a chance to play for a team capable of winning. As Johnston reports, “Hart is looking for a fresh start, which effectively rules out a return to Philadelphia.” The Flyers, currently stocked with goalies like Sam Ersson, Dan Vladar, Aleksei Kolosov, and Ivan Fedotov, all with NHL experience, are simply not in a position to offer Hart the opportunity he seeks.
Given that the Flyers are not in contention and have no room for additional goaltenders, Hart is expected to sign a two- or three-year deal, potentially allowing an extension as soon as the summer of 2026 if both sides are satisfied. Interestingly, a U.S.-based team is preferable for Hart, narrowing the list of potential suitors, while speculation around a move to Edmonton has been dismissed.
Carter Hart focused on returning to NHL form
Since his last NHL game on January 20, where he struggled in a 7-4 loss to Colorado, Hart hasn’t played any competitive matches. The terms of his reinstatement grant him a one-month window from October 15 to November 15 to practice with his new team before becoming eligible for an AHL conditioning stint. Also Read: Hockey Canada sexual assault: NHL expected to decide soon on future of five players acquitted in high-profile caseAs fans await the next chapter in Hart’s career, the coming weeks will reveal where the talented but embattled goalie will land, marking a significant fresh start for his professional journey.
