A recent CBI arrest of Inspector Subhash Yadav, in charge of the Dwarka Anti-Narcotics Cell, has uncovered deep-rooted corruption linked to the Delhi Police Department. Yadav was allegedly involved in planting drugs during raids on innocents, extorting bribes, with initial demands up to 25 lakh, and negotiated
He was arrested after a head constable under him was caught red-handed after accepting a Rs2 lakh bribe.
Later searches recovered 48.9 lakh in cash from the office and raised suspicions of a larger bribery network possibly linked to drug syndicates. Notably, this case exposes poor internal controls in high-stakes units dealing with narcotics and enforcement.
Yadav reportedly manipulated postings to retain influence even after a prior transfer. Now, the CBI’s focus is on tracing the source of unaccounted cash, benami assets and possible 100 crore scale irregularities.
Sudden transfers of top officials, including special CP-level officer Madhup Tiwari from Law and Order, who was handling the high-profile Southern Zone
Madhup Tiwari was asked to leave immediately and was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh, and a call was made by a top-ranking official to the DGP and Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh to give a sideline posting to Madhup Tiwari.
Madhup Tiwari, in earlier stints in the CBI where he handled high-profile probes like the Bank of Baroda fraud case, was repatriated mid-tenure in 2016.
According to top govt sources, these moves are seen as very important to maintain accountability. Sources confirmed that more senior officials are under the scanner who are using the Delhi Police EOW unit to settle cases and make money.
Sources also said that officers of Delhi Police were involved in large scale corruption including drugs and property dispute settlement .
In a recent Intel report it was found EOW of Delhi Police is used by senior police officer to settle disputes under threat and make money
CBI probe and tracing conduct and later multiple transfers suggests the government is not satisfied with the current state of internal vigilance and leadership. However, government is not ruling out a major crackdown, stricter posting policies and asset verifications, as large reshuffles also took place in Delhi police, where special commissioner-level changes were made.
