Delhi Police tracked the accused, Rahul Meena, using CCTV footage, tracing his route and identifying an auto-rickshaw he boarded after the crime. The driver led them to a hotel, where he was arrested.
Delhi Police tracked and arrested a 23-year-old accused, Rahul Meena, after he allegedly committed two sexual assaults within 12 hours, first in Rajasthan’s Alwar and then in Delhi.
To track Meena, police formed 15 teams to trace the accused. Investigators first examined CCTV cameras installed at the gate of the society and the building where the Delhi victim lived. The footage helped them establish the direction in which the accused fled.
Further scanning of CCTV clips allowed police to identify an auto-rickshaw the accused boarded after leaving the crime scene. Police tracked down the auto driver, who told them he dropped the accused at a hotel. Based on this lead, police reached the hotel and caught him.
According to investigators, CCTV footage shows Meena entering the residential complex in Delhi around 6:28 am wearing a yellow shirt and black pants. He entered the house at around 6:39 am and left around 7:22-7:30 am. Another clip shows him leaving in different clothes, white pants and a full-sleeved yellow T-shirt.
The crime in Delhi occurred hours after the accused allegedly raped his 22-year-old neighbour in Alwar. Police said he entered her house around 10:30 pm, pushed and assaulted her, covered her mouth, strangled her, and raped her. He also bit the victim at several places. Before leaving around 11 pm, he threatened to kill her and her family if she informed anyone. Alwar Police registered an FIR based on her complaint.
The next morning, Meena travelled to Delhi and entered a housing society in Amar Colony around 6:30 am. He then entered the house of his former employer, an IRS officer, and allegedly raped and murdered the officer’s 22-year-old daughter. When her parents returned home from the gym around 8 am, they found her lying in a pool of blood. Her clothes were torn, and she was naked from the waist down.
Police said the accused had worked as a house help at the IRS officer’s residence for almost a year. The family later fired him after discovering his betting habits. Investigators said he used to scam the family by taking money for medicines but buying them on credit instead of paying shopkeepers. He also borrowed money from people in the area.
Using CCTV footage, ground teams, and leads from the auto driver, Delhi Police traced the accused to a hotel and arrested him.
