Cesc Fabregas has confirmed he will remain at Como 1907 after guiding the club to a historic first this season.
The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder led Como to their first-ever qualification for the UEFA Champions League after a dominant 4-1 win over Cremonese on the final day of the Serie A season.
Como sealed fourth place after AC Milan suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari Calcio, while Cremonese’s loss confirmed their relegation to Serie B.
“It’s up there with all my achievements for how it was done and with whom we did it, because we did it with very young players, almost all of them are under 23 years old. That’s amazing," the 39-year-old Fabregas said during the club’s open-top bus celebrations.
Despite growing speculation linking him with several high-profile managerial jobs across Europe, the Spaniard quickly dismissed any suggestions of an exit.
“Future? We had a long meeting at 2pm with the president and the director," Fabregas told Sky Sports.
“We have consolidated the idea; the vision is already on the next season. I am very happy here; as you know, I am missing a step or two more, and I am learning a lot. We are creating a mentality."
Fabregas has rapidly established himself as one of Europe’s brightest young coaches, transforming Como from ambitious outsiders into genuine top-four contenders in record time.
Attention is now turning toward how the club will strengthen ahead of their historic Champions League campaign, with much focus centred on highly rated midfielder Nico Paz.
The Argentine youngster has attracted interest from several major European clubs, while Real Madrid reportedly retain the option to re-sign him for €9 million.
Fabregas made it clear where Como stand.
“He is a very important player for our growth. We have grown with him, and he with us," Fabregas said.
“Our wish is for him to stay with us."
The Spaniard also shut down rumours linking Paz with a move to Inter Milan.
“Nico is 50% a Como player, but he is ours. The only club that can say anything is Real Madrid," Fabregas explained.
“If I can say one thing, I know it for certain: Nico Paz will not play for Inter. Either he returns to Real Madrid or he plays for Como next year."
