Chaitra Brahmotsavams commenced with religious fervour, with elaborate rituals and ceremonies, at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada on Sunday (March 29, 2026).

Temple Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik, along with his wife Lakshmi, participated in the inaugural rituals of the annual festival dedicated to Lord Malleswara Swamy and Goddess Durga.

The celebrations began with ‘mangala snanams’ and ceremonial decoration of the deities as divine bride and groom at 8:00 a.m.. Later, key vedic rituals including ‘Vigneswara Puja’, ‘Punyahavachanam’, ‘Ankurarpanam’, and ‘Akhanda Deepa Sthapana’ were conducted under the supervision of temple priests and vedic scholars.

The ‘Dhwajarohanam’ (flag hoisting ceremony) marked the formal commencement of the Brahmotsavams, inviting devotees to the grand festivities. In the evening, the deities were taken out in a procession on a silver palanquin (’Vendi Pallaki’). drawing a large crowd.

As part of the ongoing Chaitra Brahmotsavams, Kanaka Durga temple authorities have announced that Vahana Sevas (processions) will be performed daily at 5:00 p.m.. Ravana Vahana Seva will be performed on Monday (March 30); Nandi Vahana Seva on Tuesday (March 31), Simha Vahana Seva on Wednesday (April 1), Silver Rathotsavam on Thursday (April 2), and the festivities would conclude with Nadi Viharam on Friday (April 3). During these processions, Lord Malleswara Swamy along with Goddess Durga will be taken out in grand ceremonial rides.
