Chatra ITI Employee Killed in Truck Accident on Main Road, Family Protests

Chatra: An employee of an industrial training institute (ITI) was run over by a speeding truck on the Chatra–Dobhi Main Road in Huntergunj police station limits of the district on Friday night.

The deceased Sanjay Singh (52) was returning home from his institute on a bike when he was run over near Ghanghri, the police said on Saturday.Sanjay was a resident of Hering village in Huntergunj block. Sanjay’s family members, who came to know about the incident on Saturday, protested with his body on the site of accident and sough compensation. The demonstration led to a traffic congestion on the road for 3.5 hours.

A police team reached the spot and persuaded the agitators to call off the sit-in.Police said Sanjay left his institute in Jori Bansingh around 10 pm after work. The impact of the collision with the truck killed Sanjay on the spot. The driver of the truck fled from the scene with the vehicle.Prabhat Kumar Singh, the officer-in-charge of Hunterganj police station, said, “Efforts are on to trace the absconding vehicle and driver. The body was handed over to relatives after postmortem examination at Chatra sadar hospital.”
