NEW DELHI: A woman Maoist was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Friday morning, police said.The gunfight occurred on a forested hill in the Chhotebethiya police station area during an anti-Naxal operation by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF). Kanker Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said, “The body of a woman Naxalite along with a weapon has been recovered from the encounter site so far, while the intermittent exchange of fire is still underway in the area.” The joint operation began in the forest between Amatola and Kalpar villages after security teams received intelligence about Maoist presence across the Kotri river. Police have confirmed that the operation is still in progress.
