Civil engineering innovation challenge held

The grand finale of Creators of Tomorrow – Buildathon 2026, a civil engineering innovation challenge organised by Radha TMT, was held here at Shilpakala Vedika.

CVR College of Engineering won the competition for their proposal on sustainable building solutions and earned a ₹2.5 lakh cash prize. Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Basara, secured first runner-up and ₹1 lakh, and JNTU Hyderabad was second runner-up with ₹50,000. Consolation prizes of ₹25,000 were awarded to teams from SNIST, Osmania University, GRIET and VNR VJIET.

Over 100 colleges participated, with seven finalists presenting innovative ideas, including pothole-free roads using micro-encapsulation, algae-based cement additives, sugarcane-based bricks, sustainable paints, geopolymer concrete and bamboo-reinforced green concrete.

Hyderabad District Collector D. Harichandana, who gave away the prizes, highlighted the importance of industry–academia collaboration and urged students to build a liveable, better world.
