Yulia Putintseva clashes with umpire and crowd in fiery French Open defeat to Camila Osorio, racket smash and viral video highlight tense Roland Garros match.

2020 US Open quarterfinalist Yulia Putintseva on Friday threw her racket right in front of the umpire at the French Open, telling booing fans to ‘shut up’ after an argument, with the video now going viral on social media. She went on to lose to Camila Osorio in three sets.

In the three-set thriller, Putintseva mounted a comeback after losing the opening set 5-7 to Osorio. The former managed to neutralise Osorio’s challenge in the second set and forced it into a tie-break.

Osorio struck a shot that, as per Putintseva, had landed beyond the line. But the umpire ruled that the ball had landed inside the court, resulting in the point being awarded to Osorio.

The decision left Putintseva furious and triggered a heated exchange with the umpire. As tensions rose, she pointed towards the spot where she believed the ball had landed.

In response, the umpire tried to explain the call to Putintseva, but the clarification only appeared to frustrate her further. In a burst of anger, she smashed her racket on the court while continuing to argue her case before walking away.

Fired up after the heated exchange, Putintseva saved four match points to force the contest into a deciding set. But Osorio broke her serve once again in the final set to seal a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win and book her place in the third round of the Major after an exhausting three hours and 30 minutes.

Putintseva is well known for her fiery personality and this wasn’t the first instance of on-court drama involving her this year. At the 2026 Australian Open, she faced off against Turkey’s Zeynep Sönmez and came away with a win to advance into the fourth round.

While the passionate support for Sönmez was evident throughout the match, Putintseva kept her composure and managed to come away with the victory. But although everything seemed routine, drama unfolded after the match as Putintseva responded to the crowd.
