New Delhi: Instagram has recently reported in some reports that they are working on a privacy feature that could enable users to remove themselves from someone else’s Close Friends list. The feature would let the users opt out of viewing private Stories, Reels, and posts shared with a restricted audience, without notifying the other person. Instagram has also stated that it is developing this latest tool to give its users more control over their social boundaries.

Instagram’s Close Friends feature enables people to share their Stories and posts with the selected group instead of all their followers. Since its introduction, only the creator has been able to manage who is included in the Close Friends list, leaving added users without an option to remove themselves. The latest feature could change this by enabling users to decide whether they want to continue seeing someone’s private content.

This feature is still in early development and is not being publicly tested yet. While some of the users may find it awkward or even offensive if someone leaves their Close Friends list, the feature could be helpful for those who prefer not be included in certain private sharing groups. It is worth noting that Snapchat already offers a similar option by enabling users to opt out of someone’s private Story and giving them greater control over the content they are sharing.

And as we know, Meta has stated that its upcoming subscription is also in development to provide users with additional tools and more control over how they share and connect on its platform, while keeping the core experience free. The company is not yet committed to a single approach and plans to experiment with the different subscription features and bundles, with each application offering its own set of exclusive tools.
