CM Fadnavis Inspects Navi Mumbai International Airport, Meeting Held To Review Progress Work

Chief Minister Fadnavis inspected Navi Mumbai Airport, reviewed progress, discussed radar relocation, and mentioned plans for Mumbai's third airport by 2026.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport and inspected the airport. During this visit, a meeting was held with senior officials to review the detailed progress of the work.  NBJHUI98

In a post on X, the CMO of Maharashtra said that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister Ganesh Naik, MLA Mahesh Baldi, MLA Manda Mhatre, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to be operational by September, Industries Minister Uday Samant informed the Legislative Assembly earlier, Hindustan Times reported.

The Navi Mumbai airport’s inauguration, initially slated for late August, has been slightly delayed and is now expected to take place in September.

“About 95% of the construction work is complete. The airport will begin operations within the next two months," Samant said, adding that initial services will commence with limited capacity.

The second phase of the airport is expected to be rolled out a few months after the first becomes functional.

On Friday, CM Fadnavis appealed to the aviation ministry to shift the radars/transmission towers at Dahisar and DN Nagar to another location for which two land plots have been provided.

Speaking at the Western Region Ministers’ Conference on Civil Aviation, Fadnavis said the towers were hampering the redevelopment of residential buildings in north Mumbai.

“The land to shift the radar has been provided, as has the money. If it is required to be placed before the cabinet, then do so, and if it can be done at your level, then do it. If it is shifted, it will benefit 10 lakh middle-class people who will be able to carry out redevelopment, which is currently stuck on account of the radars. I appeal to your team to visit the two plots and select whichever is suitable," he said.

Fadnavis raised the issue of constructing an offshore airport during the Vadhavan port groundbreaking ceremony in Palghar.

“An agency has been appointed to prepare the detailed project report, and it will be Mumbai’s third airport. We want to begin work on it by 2026," he said.

Fadnavis credited PM Narendra Modi for speeding up permissions for the Navi Mumbai airport, noting it’s nearing completion and will play a key role in cargo handling, alongside Pune and Nagpur airports.
