CM wants more responsibility among police officials

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stressed the need for enhancement of responsibility among police officials at different levels.

“Officers are part of system. The Government will not accept officers who are not following the system,” he said. The Chief Minister convened a meeting of senior police officials on Wednesday for, what he said, sharing the Government's thoughts with them.

He said it was mandatory for officials to inform their higher ups if they planned to leave the headquarters. They should hold crime review meetings without fail.

The Superintendents of Police should constantly conduct tours of the districts and the IG rank officers should monitor the situation on a regular basis. “As the nature of crime is upgrading, policing should also be upgraded to meet the emerging challenges,” he said.

The Chief Minister wanted special focus to be laid on smuggling of narcotic substances like ganja. He warned against complacency in maintenance of law and order situation exhorting the officials to strengthen patrolling as well as village policing.

“The department should plan its duties for at least 10 years with continuous upgraded to meet emerging challenges,” he said. Stressing the need for enhanced focus on welfare of officials at different levels, he wanted the department to leverage new technologies like drone policing besides enhancing coverage through the CCTV network.

Asserting that the Government would not tolerate corruption in the police department, he said he was prepared to take any step required for further strengthening of police. Discussions were being held with the Central Government seeking allotment of more number of officers to Telangana.
