CM warns criminals, says police will act against those who challenge law

Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Thursday issued a strong warning to criminals, saying the Bihar govt would not allow them to operate freely and that police are compelled to act when challenged by armed offenders.

He said ensuring the safety of Bihar’s 13 crore people remains the govt’s top priority and all security agencies are working in coordination towards that goal.Highlighting the importance of women’s safety, particularly that of girl students, Samrat announced that 5,000 two-wheelers are being procured for ‘police didis’, who will be deployed around schools and colleges to strengthen security and confidence among students.Addressing 5,000 newly recruited home guard jawans at their passing-out parade at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Samrat urged them to uphold discipline and public service.“The time has come to put into practice the discipline you have learned during training. Ensuring the safety and assistance of the public must be your primary duty,” he said.Samrat said Bihar Police and home guard personnel would play a key role in fulfilling chief minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of a prosperous Bihar.

Deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, along with senior officials from the home department and Bihar Police, was present on the occasion.He said the state govt is continuously investing in modern barracks, better residential facilities and welfare measures for home guard personnel to enable them to perform their duties without concern.Referring to changing law-and-order challenges, Samrat said security personnel must remain alert and adapt to emerging threats by focusing on cyber security, technology-driven policing and constant vigilance.“The contribution of home guard personnel in the successful and peaceful conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2025 assembly elections has been commendable. In their honour and welfare, their daily allowance has been increased from Rs 774 to Rs 1,121,” he said.Samrat also appreciated the efforts of DG (home guards and fire services) Shobha Ahotkar. Ahotkar said the recruits had completed their training within a record period of three months.
