Minister for Public Works Satish Jarkiholi on Friday said that any decision on bifurcation of Belagavi district would have to be taken by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Speaking to press persons after the inauguration of indoor box cricket stadium at Zilla Bala Bhavan in Belagavi on Friday, Mr. Jarkiholi said that already the leaders of the district had, on several occasions, met the Chief Minister with an appeal to bifurcate Belagavi district and carve out a new district. But final decision would have to be taken by Mr. Siddaramaiah, he said.
To a query, he said that there was no need to wait for budgetary allocation for development of Belagavi district. Instead the pace of development could be increased by utilising the funds available in various departments. In the coming days Ashoka Circle, Chennamma Circle and Kolhapur Circle would be developed, Mr. Jarkiholi said.
On supplying drinking water to Hubballi-Dharwad, he said that it was not possible to decline the demand for drinking water and moreover adequate water was available at Hipparagi reservoir.
On the mayor’s election in Belagavi municipal corporation, he said that Congress party would not interfere in the election process and whoever had the majority would rule.
