A cash management services (CMS) van driver fled with approximately ₹60 lakh meant for replenishing an ATM in Gopanpalli village, Gachibowli, on Thursday evening.
The incident was reported around 7.45 p.m. on Thursday and came into light following a complainant by one Rama Krishna. He informed the authorities that he along with Abdul Malik, a security guard identified as Perumal, and van driver Ajith Kumar, came to Axis Bank ATM centre in Gopanpalli at about 4.35 p.m. to load cash into the machine.
While Rama Krishna and Abdul Malik entered the ATM kiosk to deposit cash into the chest box, the security guard and the driver remained outside on the road. Police said the guard briefly went to fetch water. During that time, the driver drove off from the spot in the CMS vehicle with the remaining cash, estimated to be around ₹60 lakh.
Upon receiving the alert, the Gachibowli police reached the ATM centre at around 8.05 p.m. and verified the details with the staff involved in the cash replenishment. During the preliminary inquiry, it was found that the suspect, who had been working with Sangam Securities Limited for the past six months, had switched off his mobile phone at approximately 5.50 p.m.
Further investigation led the police to track the vehicle through GPS. The CMS van bearing registration number TS 10UD 0393 was later found abandoned at Gaddar junction in Tellapur under the limits of Kollur police station.
A case is being registered and efforts are under way to trace the accused driver.
