CNLU wins national moot court competition

Patna: A team from Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, emerged champions at the first NHRC–CUSB National Moot Court Competition 2026, organised by the School of Law and Governance (SLG) of the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), at Gaya on Sunday.

The team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,000, along with a trophy and a certificate of excellence.The Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, team was declared runner-up and received a cash prize of Rs 31,000. The best speaker (female) award was jointly won by students from Maharashtra National Law University and National Law Institute University, Bhopal. The best speaker (male) award was bagged by a CNLU student.

Each winner received a cash prize of Rs 11,000.Addressing the students as chief guest, retired Madhya Pradesh high court judge Justice H P Singh highlighted the importance of moot courts in the lives of legal professionals.In his presidential address, CUSB vice-chancellor K N Singh encouraged law students to interpret court judgments wisely and learn the intricacies of law to serve society better. “With increasing legal awareness among the masses, especially the marginalised and downtrodden sections of society, the age-old proverb ‘might is right’ has now changed to ‘right is might’,” the VC said.As many as 30 teams from universities across the country participated in the competition. Former dean of Kumaon University’s law department S D Sharma and CUSB law department dean Ashok Kumar also addressed the students.
