Coal India and UPRVUNL have signed a joint venture agreement to develop solar, wind, floating solar and pumped storage projects, boosting Uttar Pradesh’s clean energy capacity.

Coal India and UPRVUNL have signed a joint venture agreement to develop solar, wind, floating solar and pumped storage projects.
In a major push towards expanding renewable energy in Uttar Pradesh, Coal India Limited (CIL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to develop renewable energy projects across the state.
The agreement was signed in the presence of UPRVUNL Managing Director Mayur Maheshwari and Coal India Director (Business Development) Asheesh Kumar. The signing ceremony was also attended by Invest UP PSU Head Subodh Dixit and senior officials from both organisations.
The partnership aims to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s energy security while increasing the state’s clean energy generation capacity through sustainable and environmentally friendly power projects.
Under the agreement, Coal India and UPRVUNL will jointly establish a new company to develop renewable energy infrastructure. Coal India will hold a 51 per cent stake in the joint venture, while UPRVUNL will own the remaining 49 per cent.
The joint venture will undertake the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a range of renewable energy projects, including ground-mounted solar plants, floating solar projects, rooftop solar installations, wind energy projects and pumped storage facilities. Other clean energy initiatives may also be taken up based on mutual agreement between the two partners.
Officials said the collaboration brings together Coal India’s financial strength, renewable energy expertise and project execution capabilities with UPRVUNL’s extensive experience in power generation and understanding of the state’s energy needs.
The projects are expected to enhance the availability of clean electricity, improve grid reliability and help reduce carbon emissions while supporting Uttar Pradesh’s growing power demand.
The joint venture is also expected to contribute to the state’s long-term energy security and sustainable economic growth. Coal India has been expanding its presence in the renewable energy sector as part of its transition into an integrated energy company, while UPRVUNL continues to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s power infrastructure with a greater focus on green energy.
Senior officials from Coal India, UPRVUNL and Invest UP described the partnership as a significant step towards accelerating clean energy investments and promoting sustainable industrial development in Uttar Pradesh.
