A complaint has been lodged against the makers of 'Kesari Chapter 2' for allegedly distorting Bengal's contribution to India's freedom movement, particularly the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy Case. The film reportedly misrepresents revolutionaries Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh, sparking outrage and prompting legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Bengali film industry has also criticized the alleged historical inaccuracies.

Acomplaint has been registered with Bidhannagar Police against the makers of the Akshay Kumar starrer, Kesari Chapter 2, for allegedly distorting facts relating to Bengal’s contribution to India’s freedom movement – specifically in its depiction of the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy Case. The complaint was filed by Ranajit Biswas, a resident of Nabapally, Sector IV, who has alleged that the film has distorted the names of Bengal revolutionaries Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh to ‘Khudiram Singh’ and ‘Birendra Kumar’ from Amritsar. “I was shocked to see the distorted portrayal of Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh. The misrepresentation of Bengal’s revolutionary history is unacceptable.

The production house must issue a correction and an apology,” Biswas told us.Following the complaint, Bidhannagar Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 352 (intentional insult), Section 353(1)(c) (public mischief), and Section 353(2) (circulating false information).Set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Kesari Chapter 2 focuses on the legal battle waged by Sir C Sankaran Nair against the British Empire.

However, courtroom scenes in the film have drawn criticism for what some allege amount to deliberate distortion of historical facts. The controversy has also drawn reactions from the Bengali film industry, with director Srijit Mukherji lashing out on social media: “Khudiram Singh? What next? Mohandas Karamchand Mukherjee? Jawaharlal Dastidar? Lala Lajpat Laha? Pathetic research! (sic)”
