Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Praveenkumar, MLA, has criticised the alleged threatening remarks made by Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] district secretary M. Mehboob during a protest march held in Vadakara on Saturday (June 20, 2026) against the activities of the special investigation team (SIT) on the ‘kafir screenshot’ case.

In a release on Sunday (June 21, 2026) , Mr. Praveenkumar said that Mr. Mehboob’s alleged statements against Shafi Parambil, Vadakara MP, and Parakkal Abdulla, Kuttiyadi MLA, were a result of the CPI(M)’s lose of face in the case. He said that the SIT would nab those who created the screenshot with communal contents that appeared on the eve of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Vadakara. Mr. Praveenkumar said Mr. Mehboob seemed to be worried whether senior CPI(M) leaders would get implicated in the case.
