Cong targets BJP govt over shootings in CM’s home turf

Jaipur: Congress Sunday intensified its attack on BJP govt in Rajasthan, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order after two traders were shot in separate incidents within 30 minutes in Bharatpur, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s home district.Senior Congress functionaries Ashok Gehlot and Tikaram Jully said the back-to-back attacks reflected growing confidence among criminals and accused the state govt of failing to ensure public safety.Masked bike-borne assailants targeted two traders in separate attacks in Bharatpur Saturday night. In the first incident, the attackers allegedly looted Rs 60,000 from a grocery trader before shooting him. About 30 minutes later, they allegedly shot a utensil trader after he resisted an attempt to rob him of Rs 5 lakh.

Police constituted 10 special teams to trace the accused amid protests by the local trading community.Former CM Gehlot alleged that law and order in Rajasthan was “completely collapsed”, saying the two shootings in quick succession in the CM ’s own home region showed that the BJP govt had “lost its authority”.He claimed criminals no longer feared the law and accused the govt of leaving public safety “to God” while remaining inactive with its eyes shut.

Leader of Opposition Jully also targeted the state govt, saying the incidents demonstrated that “the rule of criminals” had replaced the rule of law in Rajasthan. He alleged that criminals no longer feared the police, the law or the govt, and said the situation in the CM ’s own district and Assembly constituency reflected the deteriorating security scenario across the state.Jully claimed that incidents of murder, robbery, rape and dacoity had become frequent and accused the govt of abandoning the public to criminals while failing to take effective action.
