Man booked for cheating job aspirant of Rs 2L on Canada employment promise

Chandigarh: A man has been booked for allegedly duping a job aspirant of Rs 2 lakh on the promise of securing employment in Canada. The Sector 26 police have registered a case and launched an investigation.Complainant Lalit Mohan, a resident of Dungra village in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, alleged that Rai Singh Negi lured him with an offer of a job in Canada and demanded Rs 2 lakh. Mohan said he later met Negi at the Timber Market in Sector 26, where he was introduced to Dayalinder Singh Gill and an agreement was executed.According to the complaint, Mohan transferred Rs 2 lakh through Google Pay after being assured that a visa would be issued within eight months.

The agreement reportedly stated that the money would be refunded within two months if the visa was not issued.However, Mohan alleged that despite nearly two years passing, neither was the visa provided nor was the money returned. He said he last contacted the two accused on Jan 14, 2026, after which they became untraceable.Following a complaint at the SSP public window, the matter was referred to Sector 26 police. After verification, police registered a case and began a probe. No arrests have been made so far.
