Panaji: Congress on Saturday strongly condemned the sheer apathy of govt and authorities in addressing the traffic congestion near the Goa Medical College (GMC) junction, especially during peak hours.
Vehicles were held up for over 40 minutes on Saturday, putting the lives of patients at risk and inconveniencing commuters, said Congress. The party said that the chaos is caused by the Cujira School Complex, which leads to massive congestion as parents arrive in private vehicles to pick up their children. The party has accused the authorities of turning a blind eye to the situation.“Basic measures such as staggered release timings of schools and colleges have not been implemented.
This failure reflects not just poor planning but also utter disregard for public safety, particularly for the working population, daily commuters, and critically ill patients heading to GMC,” said Congress spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar. The party has demanded that the education department, traffic police, and directorate of transport immediately coordinate and implement a regulated school release system, improved traffic control mechanisms, and emergency corridors around GMC and the Cujira complex.
