Patna: The two-day camp for the training of the newly appointed block presidents of the state Congress began at its state headquarters here on Sunday. It was inaugurated by the party’s state chief Rajesh Ram.
The block Congress committee presidents were appointed under the framework of the central unit’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. While the state has 534 blocks, they encompass 45,000 revenue villages and over 90,000 polling booths. “The real power of the organisation lies in the strength of the village and block-level party workers,” Ram said in his inaugural address.“The block presidents constitute the backbone of the state Congress.
They should be fully trained in the party’s ideology and organisational working style and have to remain engaged with public concerns,” Ram also said, adding that their responsibility would be expansion of the organisation, party empowerment at the booths and finding solutions to local problems and issues at the local level.Incidentally, in recent decades, it is for the first time that the state Congress has taken to building the party structure from the grassroots up under Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. The next on cards is the appointment of district presidents, and it would be followed by the state-level organisational election. On the other hand, the creation of the party structure is significant also for the fact that the party leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address youths and students at Patna on July 11.
In tune with the significance of the occasion, Congress legislature party (CLP) leader in the legislative council Madan Mohan Jha, former CLP leader in the state assembly Shakeel Ahmad Khan and head of the disciplinary committee Kapildeo Yadav, among several other party functionaries, were present.
