Constable dies in road accident in Vellore

A 39-year-old police constable was killed after the two-wheeler he was riding on was hit by a government bus on Chennai - Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) at Konavattam, within Vellore Corporation limits, on Tuesday.

The police said the deceased was identified as G. Suresh Babu, a constable attached to Pallikonda police near Vellore town. Initial inquiry revealed that Babu was on his way to Pallikonda police station when the incident occured.

The police said Babu was caught unaware by a bus that suddenly took a left turn. He hit the bus and was badly injured. Passersby and other motorists admitted him at Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore where doctors said he was brought dead. A case was registered by Vellore North police. A probe is under way.
