Constable faces FIR for trying to strangle wife after fight over affair

Ghaziabad: An FIR has been filed against a UP Police constable for allegedly trying to strangle his wife following an argument over an extramarital affair, and then attempting to pass off the assault as a suicide attempt. The accused, Parvez Alam, posted at the ACP (Loni) office, allegedly tried to strangle his wife with a scarf following an argument on June 26. The woman, still undergoing treatment, told police this was not the first time he tried to kill her.DCP (city) Dhawal Jaiswal said the woman’s father filed a complaint stating that Parvez called his son Munavvar around 4.15 pm on June 26 to inform him that his sister, Shama Praveen, had tried to hang herself.

“Parvez claimed he had taken Shama to Flores Hospital in Vijay Nagar. When we reached, she was in the ICU on ventilator support. She was later shifted to Fortis Hospital in Noida’s Sector 62,” the woman’s father, Kaseem, said. When Shama regained consciousness three days later, she told her father that Parvez had been having an extramarital affair for the past three to four years and frequently assaulted her physically.

“She said Parvez tried to kill her many times,” Kaseem said. The woman alleged that around 3.15 pm that day, she and Parvez had another argument over his affair, during which he locked her in a room at their home in Pratap Vihar’s Sector 12 and assaulted her. He then allegedly forced her into another room and strangled her with a scarf. When she lost consciousness, Parvez, apparently panicked, called her family, police said.Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against the constable at Vijay Nagar police station under BNS sections 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting a woman to cruelty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 109 (attempt to murder).
