Construction of buildings for 100 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), costing ₹194 crore, is under way in the State, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav has said.
He was responding to a question asked by MLCs Alapati Rajendra Prasad, Perabathula Rajasekharam and B. Tirumala Naidu in the Legislative Council on Tuesday about the number of PHCs in the State and details regarding their condition, and if these PHCs had own buildings.
In response to their question, the Minister said there were 1,144 PHCs and 560 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs). Out of the total PHCs, 976 had been renovated fully, he said.
He added that 2,500 doctors and paramedical staff were appointed recently to strengthen delivery of health services in the PHCs and UPHCs, and it had been decided that 110 more doctors should be appointed soon.
