Control rooms have been opened at the Fisheries Station at Vizhinjam and the District Fisheries Office as part of the arrangements in Thiruvananthapuram district for the upcoming trawling ban season.
The ban will last from June 9 to July 31 this year, according to the district administration.
The Fisheries Station at Vizhinjam can be contacted on 0471-2450773 and the District Fisheries Office, on 0471-2480335. In the event of emergencies, senior Fisheries Department officials can also be contacted on 9496007026, 9496007035 and 9496007023, the district administration said on Saturday after a review of the arrangements conducted. by District Collector Anu Kumari.
As part of the security arrangements, all fishers are required to carry copies of their Aadhaar card. They should also wear life jackets.
Saturday’s meeting also decided to constitute joint committees consisting of government representatives and trade union representatives to monitor safety and security aspects during the ban period.
Special committees will be formed to monitor fishing activities at Vizhinjam and Muthalappozhi harbours.
Sub-Collector Alfred O.V., Additional District Magistrate Nirmal Kumar G. and government and trade union representatives were also present at the review meeting.
